Information Knollop collects from users
There are three main types of information Knollop collects from users:
Site usage information. Knollop maintains information regarding the usage of the site by each user, including but not limited to which web pages are viewed by a user, which links were clicked by a user, the time spent on Knollop by each user and other usage statistics (such as number of reviews, comments, shares, etc, by each user), the IP address for each user, cookies that may help Knollop determine repeat users, and other non-personal data that is aggregated and used by Knollop to improve the usability and effectiveness of the site.
Reviews, ratings, and posts. Knollop maintains reviews, ratings, posts, and other information that is submitted by a user as part of their interaction with the site. This information is typically shown publicly to other users on the site (and, as mentioned below, potentially elsewhere) and includes an author tag that uniquely identifies the Knollop user that contributed the information. Knollop has been designed such that each user can create their own unique author tag that need not include any personally identifiable information (please see our FAQ for how this can be done).
User profile information. Knollop maintains a user profile for each user that contains information about the user (including a profile image, their email address, and other submitted personal information) and which courses the user has taken, reviewed, is interested in, has in one of their collections, and other information that is provided by the user and displayed on the user’s profile page. Each user controls which parts of their user profile can be viewed by other users and may choose to have their entire profile private (again, please see our FAQ for how to control the user profile privacy settings).
How Knollop uses the information it collects
Site usage information. Knollop analyzes aggregate statistics of site usage information to improve its services and usefulness (e.g. by determining which areas of the site are most frequently visited and focusing improvements on these areas). This information may also be used for other business purposes.
Reviews, ratings, and posts. Knollop reserves the right to reuse and re-publish any reviews, ratings, posts, or other author-tagged information submitted by a user at Knollop’s discretion, including, but not limited to, via extensions of the Knollop platform (e.g. mobile applications) and in advertisements, marketing efforts, and other business purposes. In all reuse cases, Knollop will abide by the privacy settings selected by the user.
User profile information. Knollop may use user profile information to communicate with the user and provide updates and other information that Knollop believes may be of interest to the user. As with reviews, ratings, and other author-tagged information, Knollop reserves the right to reuse and re-publish user profiles at Knollop’s discretion, including, but not limited to, via extensions of the Knollop platform and in advertisements, marketing efforts, and other business purposes. In all reuse cases, Knollop will abide by the privacy settings selected by the user. In particular, if a user has selected their profile to be private, Knollop will keep their profile private in any reuse case. At no point will any user information that has been selected as private by the user be made public. However, Knollop may anonymize the profile information for a user and provide the anonymized information to a business partner for the purposes of providing services to the user.
User communications with Knollop. When a user communicates with Knollop (e.g. via email), Knollop may use the information provided by the user to respond to their communication and any issue brought up by the user, and may store this information for future communication.
Government Authorities, Legal Rights and Actions. Knollop may share any and all information it has regarding a user with various government authorities in response to court orders, subpoenas, or other legal process; to establish, exercise, or protect Knollop’s property or legal rights; to defend Knollop against any legal claims; or as otherwise required by law. This information may also be shared in the case of suspected illegal activities or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Knollop, its users, customers, or business partners, and in connection with our Terms and other agreements.
Knollop is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. Knollop does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Upon learning of any such information collected without parental consent, Knollop will take appropriate steps to remove this information from the Site.
